WNC Mom

Hi everyone,
My husband I are will be moving from Milwaukee to Hendersonville this summer. I have four kids ranging in age from 6 months to 8 years old.
Getting acclimated will be challenging, and I would appreciate any support you area moms can offer.

(Tips, advice, suggestions, etc... about the area, things to do w/ kids, schools - public and private, activities, gyms, ymca).
I already stumbled upon the soccer league and the baseball league.

Thanks! I hope to meet some of you!

Cindy

Hi Cindy,

We moved to Hendersonville from West Palm Beach about 3 years ago, although my dad and his family have been here since before the Civil War ( so we are "local" by default). We moved to the western part of Hendersonville so we are 20 minutes from Brevard, 20 minutes from Asheville and 40 minutes from Greenville, SC - we go to all those places frequently.
My daughter is turning 11 and went to Mills River Elementary, the new campus will be completed for this fall, it's a green, eco-friendly school and the teachers are fantastic - I highly recommend it. Rugby Middle School and West Henderson High School are across the street from each other and very convenient.
I highly recommend a membership with the Leila Patterson Center, it's a fitness club with lap pool, therapy pool, hot tub, swim lessons, full fitness club, gymnasium, yoga classes, spinning, etc. They are affiliated with the Seventh Day Adventist Church so they are closed Saturdays (we're usually to busy to notice).
There is a new skateboard park opening this spring. Outdoor Family Fun Center has great golf spring break and summer camps as well as lessons.
If you are coming into town I would be happy to give you a mom's-view tour.

If you are looking for a good church you should try Biltmore Baptist Church (off long shoals road on I-26) this is a GREAT church for families with children. They even have their own sports teams called "Upward Sports".

Emmanuel Lutheran (off Patton) is a great family church, they also have a school and an incredible summer camp program.

Wow! Theres an amazing park in Fletcher, which is right outside Hendersonville. It's called...well..."Fletcher Park"It's easy to find, It's very clean.Very well maintained. It has plenty of room for the kids to run,and a lot of trails to walk. It's a great place to go spend some time watching the little ones blow off some energy!
