People in Hawaii, where I live now, seem to struggle to get by. This makes life here a bit restless, we love the area, but there is a lot to complain about if you don't have the money. Everyone seems desperate to sell you something.

DH is toying with the idea of leaving his high paying bank job, because in Asheville, you don't get paid nearly as much & he'd like to move out of corporate America for a change. Both of us are worried that Asheville would not be a good place to make this change. It seems like overqualified people work any job they can get....do you think so?

I found a site listing businesses for sale in Asheville & since we are afraid of restaurants, we had a short list. I found a toy store with 2 locations and I think this is the "Dancing bear" - which looks fantastic! The price was a little steep for us and we don't know anything about running a toy store...but...really? What DO we know anything about besides flowers (me, and that pays low) and banking?!

Asheville, at the face of it....doesn't seem to "need" or want anything other than cheap organic stuff...am I right? The big box stores are plentiful there...everything is there...it seems like everyone is strapped for cash too.

Sigh, I am in such a weird place. My DH might be getting out of a great high paying job, but doesn't want to work more hours, but wants the same pay & at a more creative job..... It is so hard to talk to him with our 1 year old around or whispering while he sleeps. My family is dying for me to move there and I am getting so scared. Feeling helpless & less hopeful then ever. :(

You know what? I really love asheville, and one of the reasons are that people are soo supportive of local buisnesses as opposed to big corporate ones. The dominos pizza even closed down, because of the lack of business...haha can you imagine?? I was very surprised to see when I passed by. I am in the process of looking for a job, right out of college...and it has been pretty tough. Right now I have a part time job, but I applied to 2 jobs in the past week that really appealed to me. A lot of the people I know in my neighborhood have a job that they like (as far as I know) and are pretty educated people not working in an underqualified position. Like anywhere you move, you have to kind of start your life over, and it takes time to build it back up to where it once was~Before starting a business in asheville, you might want to research some things first. Good luck..sorry you are feeling so helpless~
