I wanted to see what people think of the schools in Candler area, specifically Candler Elementary and Enka Middle School. We are thinking of moving across town and would be in this district. Anyone have kids there??

I haven't heard much one way or the other, but here's a website that can probably better answer your question. NeighborhoodScout.com Hope this helps.

Both my stepdaughters went to Enka Middle and Enka High . I think things have changed in the last few years w/ having Biltmore Park and those kids go to the schools.
Both my stepdaughters did really well. The oldest graduated with honors and is in her sophomore year at a State college and the other will graduate this year and has been accepted to a very prestigious private college. Like any school I think there are really good teachers and not so good.... You can actually go to the Board of Ed website and see scores for individual schools. This may help.

My family moved here from Philadelphia two years ago. I don't know about the elementry schools but my daughter is a senior in high school and a very accomplished student (AP/Honors classes all around). I could have lived anywhere in the area and choose Enka for its schools. I looked at SAT scores, drop out rate, # of students who attend colleges (I looked at both four year and two year programs), amount of scholarships the kids use, programs/classes offered and student/teacher ratio. She has thrived and we are quite pleased. She graduates with a 4.3 in June with a full ride scholarship this fall.

Thanks for the info. I really appreciate it. We are moving from Arden and we really love the schools here. I was anxious about moving from what I think are great schools. My boys are excited but my oldest ( age 12) is not happy about changing schools. He wants to play football and has really enjoyed being in band this year. He is an excellent student and I'm glad to hear that you have been happy with the schools. Congrats to your daughter on her accomplishment!

My daughter is currently as student at Enka MS and attended Candler Elem school. To date, she's done quite well. She's an A/B student and has enrolled for her freshman year (already..), at the honors level. She is a member of the Jazz band, and of the Concert band.
The schools, in our experience, have been a wonderful starting point for our daughter. She's had excellent instructors, and hardly any mishaps. There was only one experience with a teacher at the Elementary school that wasn't to my liking, and that was that she (the teacher) was fairly new, not accustomed to 2nd graders, and didn't understand that they don't all conform to "Sit still for an hour while I read to you." Our daughter is very explorative, and just could not seem to sit there the entire hour, ha! While I thought it to be somewhat humorous, her teacher evidently did not.....
But other than that, it's been a wonderful time for all involved. Best of luck with your move!

I have employed LOTS of high-school students from Enka High. They all think highly of their school and there seems to be a broad mix of economic background diversity which I always think is good.
